So, Let Me See If I Have This Right ...

... so-called GOP "insiders" believe that, in this center-right country (that is actually more "right" than these GOP "insiders" would care to admit), an inexperienced hard-core leftist with an Arabic name can be elected President a mere 7 years after 9/11, but the experienced, longest-serving Governor of the 2nd-largest state with a record of economic growth and job creation can't get elected against a weak, hard-left President responsible for the worst economy since the Great Depression and the biggest deficits in history?

Yeah, right. Methinks the GOP "insiders" are full-of-shit Romneybots.

I couldn't agree more.

Romney is just another McCain, vanilla, empty, and without conviction and purpose.

He's actually worse than McCain. Romney has no core principles, but his instincts are, apparently, center-left.

Back in '08, I referred to him as the GOP's version of John Kerry.

I could hold my nose and vote for McCain, especially after he added Palin to the ticket. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES will I vote for Romney. If he somehow wins the nomination, I'm voting 3rd party.

As it turns out, the survey included 30+ Romney staffers or ex-staffers of 140+ polled.

The same folks who thought Marco Rubio wasn't electable here in Florida.

McCain and Romney shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath.

Yes, McCain can be a vexatious diva at times, but he is, in the main, an honorable man and undoubtedly a genuine American hero.

I don't loathe him like I did the reptilian Charlie Crist. I would like to like Romney (by all accounts, he's a spotless family man), but too much of what he says has a ring of inauthenticity. As a politician, I don't know who the real Mitt Romney is. When push comes to shove--when compromise is impossible--what are his non-negotiables?

Given how much of the map his various positions have covered since 1994, can anyone say with any degree of certainty?

Exactly, Dale. The guy has no core principles and appears to want to be all things to all people. But to the extent he does have any ideological instincts, I happen to believe the REAL Romney is the one who tried to run to Kennedy's left in 1994, and who governed as a Rockefeller RINO. His Social Security schtick during and then after the debate last night can't really be said to have "sealed" my opposition to him (since I was never going to vote for him anyway), but it certainly affirmed it.
