Pennsylvania Senate: Casey (D) 52% Santorum (R) 37%

From Rasmussen Reports:
The reelection campaign of Republican Senator Rick Santorum has been a rocky road so far, and the latest Rasmussen Reports election poll of the Pennsylvania race for U.S. Senate offers only minor comfort at best.

Now trailing Democrat Bob Casey by fifteen percentage points (52% to 37%), Santorum has gained a few points since last month. Of course, gaining a few points after lagging by twenty-three points is hardly an accomplishment for an incumbent to brag about. The overall trend remains very unhappy for Santorum: he has reached a 40% level of support just once in our last eight polls of the race. Casey has topped 50% in all but one of those polls.

My Comments:
The bad news continues for Santorum.

15 points can't be spun in any way as good news...but Rasmussen did have him down by 25 in the previous poll.

As I said a looong time ago, Santorum is toast. He's running against a Casey and a pro-life Republican can't win in Pennsylvania without the Casey Democrats.

Fortunately, I believe Casey's real desire is to be Governor. So, hopefully that seat will open up again in a few years once Casey decides to run for that office.

Unfortunately, in the meantime, it means we will lose in Santorum one of the most outspoken advocates for the pro-life cause in the Senate. I can guarantee you that, for all Casey's pro-life rhetoric, his advocacy in the Senate on life issues will be limited or non-existent.

I fear you're right. It's a pity Casey isn't running against Arlen Specter, though I know the Democrats would never allow that.
