Catholics and Guns

College Catholic has a good post on Catholics and gun control. I'll say here what I said in the comments over there:
Any man who thinks it's the job of the cops to protect his family is no man at all.

If you have a wife and kids, it should be mandatory that you keep a firearm in your home (stored in a safe place away from the kids, of course, but where you can reach it quickly if you need it in an emergency).

As the situation in New Orleans showed, when the shit hits the fan and all hell breaks loose, the goverment is not going to be there to protect you!

Glad you liked the post.

It seems like an awful lot of us Catholic blogger guys are firearm owners, I am not shocked by that corrolation. The USSCB on the other hand probably would be.

I know one pistol-packin' priest, OP, who assures me that there is no incongruity between being a good Catholic and owning a firearm or ten.

If there is such an incongruity, call me a heretic, 'cause I'm not giving up on my S&W 10mm, which resides (with a gun lock on it) in my dresser drawer. The wife has access to a neat little snub nose .38. The family that shoots together stays together.
