Pro-Abort/Pro-Gay Republican Tops Pro-Abort/Pro-Gay Democrat In Presidential Poll - Who Cares?

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani tops Senator Hillary Clinton for President in a recent Canisius poll:
BUFFALO, N.Y. A new poll shows former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani beating Senator Hillary Clinton if the 2008 presidential election were held today.

The nationwide poll was conducted by Canisius College. It surveyed 455 Americans over 18 Sunday through Tuesday. The poll showed the Republican former mayor beating the Democratic senator 54 to 38 percent in a hypothetical battle.

Clinton loses among voters in red states, which is no surprise, but Giuliani breaks even in the blue states.

I'll have to check my calendar, but it seems to me that I'm busy doing something or other on Election Day 2008, so I might have trouble making it to the polls.

Washing my hair, maybe.

1) There is no way in hades that Rudy gets the nomination.

2) If he were to get it, it would inevitably result in a serious social conservative third party campaign. Reason to go to the polls Election Day 2008, no? If the GOP does something so incredibly stupid, we need to tell them in the loudest way we can that they aren't going to get our vote.

I personally don't think either of them will get it. Hillary is the one thing that will practically guarantee that the Republican coalition holds together (by and large). If she's not the nominee, the Dems have a much better chance of having their enemy break apart before their eyes. I think Rudy would fracture the party no matter what, but anyone less liberal than Rudy wouldn't if Hillary were running. Whether the Dems will realize this and run someone else, anyone else, I don't know.
